Latin name: Carduelis chloris
Size: Approximately 15cm long.
Distribution: Found throughout the UK.
Months seen: All year round
Habitat: Gardens, parks, woodland and farmland.
Food: Seeds.
Special features: The male greenfinch has bright green plumage on the
chest, head and back. At rest the edges of the wings have a yellow band along
the edge. In flight this can be seen as a patch along the primary feathers
The
female greenfinch has a more greyish chest colour and a brownish coloured head
and back.
The stout beak in both the male and female greenfinch is a very pale pink
colour.
